Kent County Public Library invites everyone to join the 2024 Adventure Begins at Your Library summer reading experience!
KCPL’s summer reading experience includes reading challenges for all ages – babies through adults – as well as 8 weeks full of programs and events. Everyone who joins us will have opportunities to win prizes, create connections, and celebrate reading.
We welcome all levels of participation! Register for a reading challenge, then spend the summer reading whatever you choose while logging reading minutes to win prizes and to contribute to KCPL’s collaborative summer reading goal. Join us for a single event or come to programs every week to try new things, get creative, learn amazing information, and more.

In 2023, Kent County Public Library’s summer reading goal was 850,000 minutes and the response was fantastic – hundreds of readers of all ages participated and they logged 911,021 minutes!
This year we’re going bigger. We have added to the summer reading goal and are challenging our community to the collective, collaborative goal of reading 1,000,000 minutes.
To reach this goal, we need the whole community to help!
- All age groups - babies, kids, teens, and adults - are welcome to join the fun and count the minutes they read this summer toward our collective goal!
- To get started, register for an Adventure Begins at Your Library summer reading challenge. Details for each age group are below!
While all ages are invited to join the fun, participating in KCPL’s summer reading experience can help kids start the next school year ready to pick up where they left off instead of needing to re-learn skills and information due to the "summer slide."

Join us at a kickoff event on June 21st at the Rock Hall Civic Center, June 20th at our North County Branch in Galena, or June 22nd at our Chestertown Branch to register for summer reading, get a printed reading log, and to pick up a swag bag of summer goodies, including a free Adventure Begins at Your Library t-shirt (available while supplies last).

The race toward 1,000,000 minutes starts on June 1st! This is the day you can start tracking your reading minutes.
Minutes can be tracked online using Beanstack or on a paper log sheet you can pick up at any KCPL location starting on June 1st.
The more you read and log your reading minutes, the more chances you have to earn prizes for yourself and to help us reach our goal of 1,000,000 minutes read by the community! If you're reading aloud together as a family or group, remember that each person can log those minutes for their own challenge.
All minutes must be submitted to KCPL by August 10th, 2024 to be counted!
To make sure your minutes are counted, share your paper reading log with library staff by the time the library closes on August 10th or enter your minutes into the Beanstack app by 11:59pm.
At our Summer Reading Finale on August 17th, we'll announce whether or not we've hit the 1,000,000 minutes read goal!
