KIDS AND TEENS
Kent County Public Library invites families and caregivers to help their kids become strong readers by reading 1,000 books together before they enter kindergarten.
Reading aloud to young children starting when they’re born helps create strong language skills and grow their vocabulary – two very important tools for learning how to read.
For more information and details on how to register, please visit the For Kids & Teens page.
The all ages Summer Reading Experience is a highly-anticipated annual opportunity for kids and teens to engage in the joy of reading. About
When we read a great book, we can't wait to share the experience and talk about it with others. That's one of the joys of reading.
In that spirit, Maryland Humanities created One Maryland One Book (OMOB) to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book. We invite you to participate in book-centered discussions and related programs at public libraries, high schools, colleges, museums, bookstores, and community and senior centers around the state.
For more information, visit One Maryland One Book.
2024 Book Selection
The 2024 One Maryland One Book selection is What Storm, What Thunder by Myriam J.A. Chancy.
This book is available to borrow in multiple formats. You can request a physical copy through our catalog or place a hold on a digital copy using Overdrive/Libby.
How to Participate
As an official One Maryland One Book program partner, KCPL supports Maryland Humanities in bringing together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book.
Starting in mid-August, free copies of this year's book will be available at all KCPL locations on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.
Explore the book and its themes at book discussions and other programming in September and October. Check our calendar for details.
The Summer Reading Experience isn't just for kids anymore! KCPL invites adults participate and have just as much fun as our young readers do.
